Job summary

Optegra Eye Health Care in Sheffield is seeking an experienced optometrist for a zero-hour contract with flexible shifts. The role involves pre- and post-operative consultations and assessing patient suitability for treatment.

Key responsibilities include refractive surgery examinations, post-surgery clinics, patient health advice, and following referral pathways. GOC registration and strong experience in refractive/ hospital settings are required.

Qualifications

• Current GOC registration as a fully qualified optometrist.
• Extensive experience as an optometrist in refractive/high street or hospital settings.
• Experience using patient administration systems and electronic medical record systems.
• Experience working to conversion targets and KPIs within Vision Correction.

Responsibilities

• Carry out examinations for refractive surgery, cataract and medical retina procedures.
• Run acute and follow-up clinics post-surgery with documentation in EMR.
• Provide health advice and support to patients attending the hospital.
• Provide first-line clinical advice to patients and refer to a medical practitioner if needed.
• Ensure awareness of equipment safety and usage within the clinical competency framework.
• Attend mandatory update courses and stay aware of CQC policies.

The Role

As an integral part of a multi-disciplinary team working alongside consultants, you will be required to carry out pre and post-operative consultations, assessing the suitability of patients for treatment. Some of your key responsibilities will include:

• Carry out examinations that are associated with refractive surgery, cataract, and medical retina procedures.
• Run acute and follow up clinics postsurgery for patients documenting findings in the electronic medical record systems.
• Provide health advice and support to patients attending the hospital.
• Provide first line clinical advice to patients and follow the appropriate means of referral to a medical practitioner if necessary.
• Ensure awareness of the uses, safety precautions and handling of equipment within the clinical competency framework.
• Ensure awareness of CQC policies and updates, attending all mandatory update courses.

What You’ll Need

• Current GOC registration as a fully qualified optometrist
• Extensive experience working as an optometrist in a refractive, high street or hospital environment
• Experience of using patient administration systems and electronic medical record systems
• Experience of working to conversion targets and other KPIs within Vision Correction
