Job summary

West Town Primary Academy is recruiting a Reading Champion to promote reading and literacy, oversee intervention programmes, and support targeted phonics and early reading progress. You will work with the Early Reading and Phonics Lead to deliver structured interventions and monitor pupil outcomes.

The role includes leading phonics sessions, small-group reading, and 1:1 support, with opportunities for development within a collaborative school environment.

Qualifications

• Grade 5/C or above in GCSE English and Mathematics (or equivalent).
• Experience of working with primary-aged children and delivering phonics and/or reading interventions.
• Experience of delivering the Little Wandle phonics programme or another recognised systematic synthetic phonics programme.

Responsibilities

• Lead targeted phonics interventions and reading groups.
• Deliver small-group reading sessions and one-to-one support.
• Assess and monitor pupil progress and contribute to intervention planning.
• Develop resources to support learning and improve reading outcomes.
