Overview

The Department of Radiology & Radiological Science at The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) is seeking an Interventional Radiologist to work full-time at their hospital in Lancaster, SC. Lancaster Medical Center is part of the Catawba division which includes Chester Medical Center and Indian Land Medical Center to be built in 2027. IR should be BE/BC and able to perform a broad range of general and advanced IR procedures.

General
  • CT and US biopsies, drainages, injections
  • Chole tubes, nephrostomy tubes, venous access
  • Dialysis access work, fistulagram/declot
Specialized
  • PAD interventions
    • Management of chronic stenotic and occlusive disease including angioplasty, stenting for Iliac, femoropopliteal, tibial disease.
  • Superficial venous disease
    • GSV ablation, sclerotherapy, phlebectomy
  • Deep venous disease
    • DVT thrombectomy, chronic venous recanalization
  • Oncology
    • TACE, y90, ablation
  • Renal transplant interventions
    • Ureteral stenosis, biopsies, renal arteriogram/stenting
  • TIPS/BRTO

This community practice functions as a busy clinically-based IR service offering a wide range of general and advanced IR procedures. The department serves a large geographic area with frequent outpatient referrals from multiple surrounding counties. Applicant would be joining a high quality, dedicated, and passionate IR team of 3 nurses and 3 IR techs at the hospital. A busy IR clinic is also present, consisting of general IR clinic, a vein clinic, and a vascular lab with dedicated full-time vascular-certified ultrasound technologist. General IR Clinic is staffed by a clinical scheduler, referral/authorization specialist, clinic office coordinator, an LPN, and a CMA. A full-time APP also assists with hospital and clinic work, including light IR procedures. Clinic time is typically 1-1.5 clinic days/week, some of which involves procedures in vein clinic. No nights or weekend call. No diagnostic imaging requirement aside for vascular lab ultrasound studies. The VIR team is committed to providing our patients with the highest level of care while maintaining a supportive and comfortable environment.

Applicant will enjoy professorship status (Clinical Assistant Professor) as a member of the College of Medicine. No research requirement. No radiology or IR residents/fellows on-site at this location. However, affiliated DO medical students, radiology tech students, and others regularly rotate through the department. The existing full-time on-site IR is willing to provide close support/training for new grads and others without experience in PAD/superficial venous disease.
