Job summary

A leading company in the transport sector is offering a Level 3 SHE Apprenticeship starting in March 2026. This 24-month apprenticeship focuses on health, safety, and environmental practices, providing skills that lead to an accredited qualification. Participants will learn to identify and control workplace hazards and will receive support from experienced mentors. Successful applicants will engage in online learning as well as face-to-face sessions. Note that functional skills for maths and English are optional with manager approval.

Qualifications

  • Complete programme over 24 months with a focus on health, safety, and environmental practices.
  • Participants will meet eight times with a Skills Officer.

Job description

This apprenticeship is relevant to colleagues who inspire and influence others to see the benefit of working responsibly and safely.

Questapprenticeships allow you to learn alongside your current role, providing you with new skills, knowledge and a nationally accredited qualification. You will remain in your current role and there is no change to terms and conditions. You'll be supported by a GWR mentor and our delivery partner, Exeter college. This apprenticeship starts in March 2026.

What does the apprenticeship involve?

You’ll learn about the moral reasons for good safety, health and environmental working practices, statutory health, safety and environmental legislation, how to plan and have systems in place to manage changeand how to identify and evaluate hazards.

Topics include:
  • Identifying, evaluating and controlling hazards in the workplace
  • How people think and how their decisions can lead to risk
  • The difference between occupational hygiene, health surveillance and health and wellbeing campaigns
  • How to plan for safety, health and environmental emergencies
What's in it for me?

Through studying this programme you will gain a nationally recognised qualification, learn new skills and knowledge and become more productive and effective. On completion of this apprenticeship you will achieve the Level 3 SHE Apprenticeship certificate and you will be able to join the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) atTechIOSH level. TechIOSH qualifications include the National Examination Board for Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH) National General Certificate and International General Certificate. As a Technical Member, you can follow your name with the letters Tech IOSH.

Our Delivery Partner

The 24-month programme will be delivered by Ofsted Outstanding Exeter College mainly through taught online sessions and some face-to-face sessions. This will provide continuous support and development for each learner and facilitate effective learner progress. You will be required to be released for studyoronline learningto complete this programme two days a month and you will have plannedeight weekly reviews with your Skills Officer and mentor to discuss progress and on programme support.

Functional Skills for maths and English are no longermandatory, however can be undertaken with line manager agreement. Exeter College will continue to offer support where need with maths and English throughout the apprenticeship.

Applicantswill be required to complete an application form and if short listed, a short on-line information session with the college tutor.

Please note, as part of the short-listing process, your application form will be shared with Exeter College.
