About Cooper & Turner

A global leader in the design and manufacture of high‑strength, safety‑critical fasteners, including bolts, nuts, and studs. With roots dating back over 150 years in Sheffield, we supply demanding industries such as construction, rail, wind energy, oil & gas, and power generation.

Role Summary

We are looking for a Quality‑focused RFID Stud Measurer / Quality Technician to join our team. In this role, you will leverage your background in quality inspection or technical quality control to accurately measure studs, apply RFID tags, and maintain traceable data to support both inventory management and product quality assurance.

Key Responsibilities
RFID Tagging
  • Correctly attach RFID tags to studs as per established procedures.
  • Ensure tags are securely affixed and optimally placed to ensure reliable scanning.
Stud Measurement & Inspection
  • Use handheld or fixed RFID readers to capture stud dimensions (mainly length).
  • Verify and validate measurement accuracy, identifying and investigating any discrepancies.
  • Apply your inspection skills to flag studs that fail to meet dimensional or quality standards.
Data Management & Traceability
  • Digitally record all measurements and inspection data with 100% traceability.
  • Maintain an organized data system to support Cooper & Turner’s high‑quality traceability protocols.
  • Transfer and upload data into internal systems for inventory and quality control.
  • Prepare and deliver summary reports on measurements and inspection outcomes.
Quality Assurance
  • Act as a quality gatekeeper: identify tag failures, dimension deviations, or other non‑conformities.
  • Support root‑cause investigations and corrective actions for quality issues.
  • Work collaboratively with the quality team to continuously improve measurement and tagging processes.
Equipment & Calibration
  • Maintain and care for RFID readers and related equipment.
  • Follow calibration and maintenance schedules to ensure reliable, repeatable measurements.
  • Report any equipment malfunctions or calibration issues promptly to the supervisor.
Health & Safety
  • Adhere strictly to all site safety protocols and regulations.
  • Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
  • Keep your workspace clean, orderly, and compliant with safety standards.
Other Tasks
  • Help out in other departments during quieter periods, performing tasks you are trained for and deemed capable of by management.
Person Specification / Requirements
  • Proven experience in a quality inspection, quality technician, or quality control role — ideally in manufacturing or engineering.
  • Familiarity with inspection tools and measurement instruments.
  • Comfortable working with digital data systems — inputting, organising, and validating data.
  • Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to work.
  • Problem‑solving mindset: able to identify issues, investigate discrepancies, and suggest improvements.
  • Good communication skills — you’ll report defects and communicate findings with the quality and production teams.
  • Ability to maintain and care for technical equipment (or willingness to learn).
  • Good understanding of health & safety practices and willingness to follow PPE protocols.
