Job summary

FirstGroup plc is seeking a PSV/HGV Mechanic for the Chelmsford depot. The role requires NVQ/SVQ Level 3 in vehicle maintenance & repair and experience with PSV/HGV vehicles. A valid UK driving licence is essential, with a focus on safe, reliable vehicle servicing and repairs.

The position offers £24.37 per hour with a £25.42 weekend premium, roughly £46,310 per year, and a 4-on/3-off style schedule. A £2,000 joining bonus is available for new team members.

Qualifications

• Experience on PSV/HGV vehicles preferred.
• Valid UK driving licence.
• Strong attention to detail and passion for mechanics.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose faults and carry out mechanical repairs on PSV/HGV vehicles.
• Carry out scheduled servicing, inspections and preventative maintenance.
• Respond to on-road breakdowns and recoveries; road-test vehicles as required.
• Ensure all work is documented in line with regulations and health and safety standards.

Position: PSV/HGV Mechanic
Location: Chelmsford depot, Westway, CM1 3AR

We are now looking for an SVQ/NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) qualified PSV/HGV Mechanic to join the busy team at First Bus Chelmsford Depot. PSV or HGV mechanical experience is great however we love to hear from ex-Forces personnel with an engineering apprenticeship qualification, and experienced engineers from other automotive sectors looking for a change.

Key Details

• £24.37 per hour
• £25.42 weekend premium rate
• Approx. £46,310 per annum
• 4 days over 7 - minimum 39 hours per week
• Rotation of early shifts 05:00-15:00 and late shifts 14:30-00:30
• Potential to earn around £4000 extra with weekend premium
• £2,000 joining bonus!

Role Responsibilities

In this hands-on role, you'll keep vehicles running safely and reliably by diagnosing faults, completing mechanical repairs and replacing parts when needed. You'll carry out scheduled servicing, routine inspections and preventative maintenance, as well as responding to on-road breakdowns and recoveries. You'll also road test vehicles where required and make sure all documentation is completed accurately and in line with regulations and health and safety standards.

What We're Looking For

• Do you have a Level 3 NVQ/SVQ or City & Guilds equivalent in vehicle maintenance & repair?
• Do you have experience working on HGV or PSV?
• Do you have a valid UK driving licence?
• Do you also have a strong attention to detail and a passion for mechanics?
