Job summary

First Bus Rochdale is hiring a PSV/HGV Shift Mechanic to join the busy depot team. You will diagnose faults, perform repairs, and carry out servicing to keep vehicles safe and reliable. Final tasks include documenting work and ensuring regulatory compliance.

Role requires NVQ/SVQ Level 3 (or City & Guilds equivalent) in vehicle maintenance, PSV/HGV experience is preferred, and a valid UK driving licence. Weekend rotation and 40-hour weeks are included.

Qualifications

• Level 3 NVQ/SVQ or equivalent in vehicle maintenance & repair required.
• Experience on PSV or HGV desirable, with UK driving licence.
• Strong attention to detail and safety focus.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose faults and perform mechanical repairs to PSV/HGV.
• Carry out scheduled servicing and preventative maintenance.
• Respond to on-road breakdowns and recoveries as required.
• Document work and ensure compliance with regulations.

PSV/HGV Mechanic

We are now looking for an NVQ/SVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) qualified PSV/HGV Shift Mechanicto join the busy team at First Bus Rochdale Depot – PSV or HGV mechanical experience is great however we love to hear from ex-Forces personnel with an engineeringapprenticeship qualification, and experienced engineers from other automotive sectors looking for a change.

Key Details:

• £20.06 per hour
• Weekend overtime paid at £21.06 Saturday, £22.06 Sunday
• Minimum 40 hours per week
• 5 days over 7
• Rotation of early and late shifts

In this hands‑on role, you'll keep vehicles running safely and reliably by diagnosing faults, completing mechanical repairs and replacing parts when needed. You'll carry out scheduled servicing, routine inspections and preventative maintenance, as well as responding to on‑road breakdowns and recoveries. You'll also road test vehicles where required and make sure all documentation is completed accurately and in line with regulations and health and safety standards.

What We’re Looking For

• Do you have a Level 3 NVQ/SVQ or City & Guilds equivalent in vehicle maintenance & repair?
• Do you have experience working on HGV or PSV?
• Do you have a valid UK driving licence?
• Do you also have a strong attention to detail and a passion for mechanics?
