Job summary

First Bus Slough Depot is seeking a PSV/HGV mechanic with NVQ/SVQ Level 3 in vehicle maintenance (or equivalent). The role entails leading mechanical operations for servicing, breakdowns and inspections on buses and coaches at the Slough site, with flexible shifts and opportunity for career progression.

Applicants should have a Level 3 qualification, a driving licence (PCV desirable), and experience with buses or HGVs.

• UK driving licence holder; PCV licence desirable, but we can help you obtain it
• Experience with buses/coaches or HGV vehicles is valuable
• Flexible approach to work with ability to multi-skill

• Lead the mechanical engineering operation for bus servicing, breakdowns and inspections; diagnose faults and plan repairs
• Remain up to date with health and safety and engineering legislation
• Work with modern diagnostic equipment and bus history data
• Ensure commitments to operational requirements are met across varying shifts

Job description

Location: First Bus Slough Engineering Depot, Stanley Cottages, Slough SL2 5AQ

Contract: 40 hours per week - full time & permanent

Working Hours: Varying shifts available, can be discussed at screening

Pay Rate: £22.77 per hour, £47,361 per annum

We are now looking for an NVQ/SVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) qualified PSV/HGV Mechanic for our First Bus Slough Depot – PSV or HGV mechanical experience is great however we love to hear from ex-Forces personnel with an engineering apprenticeship qualification, and experienced engineers from other sectors looking for a change.

Key Responsibilities:

• To lead the mechanical engineering Operation, dealing with bus servicing, breakdown and inspections and diagnose faults, specifying the correct method of repair and length of time it may take to repair
• To be flexible in respect of working hours to ensure commitments to operational requirements are fulfilled and will need to remain up to date with any new engineering or health and safety legislation
• To be fully up to date with individual bus history paying particular attention to reoccurring defects prior to carrying out the bus inspection.
• To be familiar with modern repair techniques and the use of electronic and mechanical diagnostic equipment (i.e. Brake rolling road tester, smoke meter, headlight alignment tester, engine oil sampling and diagnostic laptop equipment)
• To be familiar with computerised engineering systems and the input and extraction of relevant data

About You

• Do you have a minimum Level 3 NVQ/SVQ (or City & Guilds equivalent) qualification in vehicle maintenance and repair – PSV/HGV preferred
• Do you have a flexible approach to work with the ability to multi skill?
• Are you a UK driving license holder? A PCV license is desirable however we can help you achieve this
• Do you have experience of working with buses & coaches, HGV vehicles?
