FirstGroup plc is recruiting a NVQ/SVQ Level 3 (or City & Guilds equivalent) qualified PSV/HGV Mechanic to join the busy First Bus Basildon Depot. Basildon is a fully electrified depot with state‑of‑the‑art vehicles and charging facilities, and you will be upskilled in electric vehicle maintenance.
In this hands‑on role you will diagnose faults, complete mechanical repairs and replace parts as needed, carry out servicing and inspections, and respond to breakdowns.

Position: PSV/HGV Mechanic
Location: Basildon Depot, SS16 5AG
We are now looking for an NVQ/SVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) qualified PSV/HGV Mechanic to join the busy team at First Bus Basildon Depot – PSV or HGV mechanical experience is great however we love to hear from ex-Forces personnel with an engineeringapprenticeship qualification, and experienced engineers from other automotive sectors looking for a change. Basildon is a fully electrified depot with state-of-the-art vehicles and charging facilities, anyone that joins us will be upskilled in electric vehicle maintenance.
In this hands‑on role, you'll keep vehicles running safely and reliably by diagnosing faults, completing mechanical repairs and replacing parts when needed. You'll carry out scheduled servicing, routine inspections and preventative maintenance, as well as responding to on‑road breakdowns and recoveries. You'll also road test vehicles where required and make sure all documentation is completed accurately and in line with regulations and health and safety standards.
