Job summary

First Bus Chelmsford Depot is hiring a PSV/HGV Mechanic with NVQ/SVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) to service and repair fleet vehicles. The role offers 39 hours per week with overtime, 4 days out of 7 shifts (05:00-15:00 / 14:30-00:30). A £2,000 joining bonus is available, plus a competitive hourly rate and weekend premium.

Qualifications

• Minimum Level 3 NVQ/SVQ in vehicle maintenance & repair; PSV/HGV preferred.
• UK driving licence; PCV licence desirable (we can help you achieve this).
• Ex-forces personnel with an engineering apprenticeship qualification encouraged.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and carry out vehicle repairs, servicing, and parts replacement.
• Diagnose vehicle faults and specify the correct method of repair and parts.
• Carry out vehicle servicing and routine examinations using handheld data capture devices.
• Attend on-road vehicle breakdowns and recoveries where required.
• Carry out vehicle road testing to identify defects after repairs.

Position: PSV/HGV Mechanic

Location: Chelmsford depot, Westway, CM1 3AR

Contracted Hours: 39 per week (permanent + overtime available)

Shifts: 4 days out of 7 (including weekends) on a rotation of early shifts 05:00-15:00 and late shifts 14:30-00:30

Pay Rate: £24.37 per hour and £25.42 as the weekend premium hourly rate

Salary: £49,422 per annum with the potential to earn around £4000 extra with weekend premium

Key Responsibilities:

• Diagnose and carry out vehicle repairs, servicing, and parts replacement
• Diagnose vehicle faults and specify the correct method of repair and parts to be used
• Carry out vehicle servicing and routine vehicle examinations using handheld data capture devices if applicable
• Attend on‑road vehicle breakdowns and recoveries where required
• Carry out vehicle road testing where necessary to identify specific vehicle defects or following remedial repair

About You:

• Do you have a minimum Level 3 NVQ/SVQ (or City & Guilds equivalent) qualification in vehicle maintenance & repair – PSV/HGV preferred
• Do you have a flexible approach to work with the ability to multi skill?
• Are you a UK driving license holder? A PCV license is desirable however we can help you achieve this
