Job summary

WSP in the UK & Ireland is seeking an Associate Protection & Control Engineer in the UK Energy business. You will lead the design and delivery of protection and control systems for transmission and distribution projects, providing technical direction and governance across multidisciplinary teams.

You will undertake BP141 and CDAE activities, mentor engineers, and build strong client relationships while supporting growth and technical excellence within the discipline.

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• Extensive protection and control design experience.
• Strong knowledge of electrical networks and protection philosophies.
• Experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Experience reviewing technical documentation and calculations.
• Knowledge of major suppliers (ABB/Hitachi Energy, Siemens Energy, GE Vernova).
• Understanding of IEC 61850 and IEC 60870.
• Mentoring and developing engineers.
• Client engagement and business development experience.
• Chartered Engineer status or working towards.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development and delivery of protection and control solutions for transmission and distribution projects.
• Provide technical direction and assurance across multidisciplinary teams.
• Undertake BP141 and CDAE activities ensuring design compliance with standards.
• Lead, mentor and develop engineers across experience levels.
• Build and maintain strong client relationships and represent WSP in reviews and governance meetings.
• Support growth of Protection & Control capability through recruitment and delivery.
