Senior Project Manager – Equal Access
This position sits within the Equinix Global Design and Construction team (over 250 projects globally per year, in excess of $3Bn capex). The Senior Project Manager role is vital for the prosperity of our projects, overseeing and managing various aspects of datacentre project cycle from:
- Initial stages of the project, gaining stakeholder alignment, approval, and advance funding for design and preconstruction activities
- Construction: Overseeing the completion of the design and preconstruction process, ensuring high levels of quality and safety are achieved
- Testing & Acceptance: Plan and execute a rigorous testing program to ensure the facility functions as designed and meets the expectations of Operations and customers
- Facilitate the hand‑off of the project to site operations, ensuring all customer requirements are accommodated
- Direct day‑to‑day activities/operations of a team of Construction/Operation Project Managers
- Mentor junior team members and make strong tactical decisions to resolve project issues
- Manage Construction project costs, methods, and project team selection to meet project schedules and goals while working in a multi‑faceted environment
- Responsible in all aspects of data centre design & construction for respective project from project inception, through design, procurement, construction, commissioning and hand‑over of an operating facility, that could include ground up construction, fit‑outs, remodels, etc.
- Direct all partners, internal (Design, Procurement, Operations, Security and IT/Network) and external vendors comprising Contractors, design teams, commissioning agents, equipment suppliers, etc.
- Drive a safe, quality‑first culture, ensuring that all applicable codes, standards, and good construction practices are followed
- Adhere to internal controls at each step of the process through effective contract administration including generation, review, management, and monitoring of prime contracts, subcontracts, change orders, cost forecasts, and other pertinent documents
- Occasional travel may be required for project delivery, depending on project locations, which involves exposure to construction environments
Management and Leadership
- Provides guidance to Construction Project Managers who are driving day‑to‑day construction projects
- Sets goals for immediate team members
- Manages one or more construction projects at a time
- Manages and monitors project progress, quality and compliance with building regulations
- Ensures projects are meeting or exceeding company expectations
- Manages project risk registers
- Directs external vendors per project comprising general contractors, design teams, commissioning agents, equipment suppliers, etc.
- Supports identification and development of training programs and cross‑functional training
- Manages contract administration procedures including generation, review, and monitoring of prime contracts, subcontracts, change orders, cost forecasts, and other pertinent documents
- Liaises with local authorities and relevant state agencies and departments
- Manages policy & procedure development, maintaining best‑in‑class policies and procedures
- Manages project closure, handover and ensures lessons learnt processes are established and implemented
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in construction, construction project management, and/or engineering or with equivalent experience
- Proven experience in project and construction management that will include critical infrastructure for datacentre, pharmaceutical, biotechnological or similar environments
- Ability and willingness to travel
- Customer focused, self‑motivated and flexible
- Experience in construction procurement methodologies
- Experience in the adoption of off‑site manufacturing methods in construction
- Proficiency in MS Office, including MS Project, Excel, and Visio
- English language is a must
