Job description
Overview

Project Engineer with a main contractor on the Anglian Water framework — design-focused role within the water sector delivering wastewater infrastructure and non-infrastructure projects under NEC contracts. You'll manage the design lifecycle from feasibility and concept through to construction‑issue drawings, coordinate multi‑discipline teams and consultants, and provide technical support through construction and handover.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead design development from feasibility and concept through to detailed design and construction‑issue drawings.
  • Develop conceptual solutions following root‑cause analysis and ensure designs meet client requirements and statutory standards.
  • Manage production and control of design deliverables: reports, drawings, specifications and schedules.
  • Act as the primary interface between client, consultants, subcontractors and internal delivery teams to ensure alignment with NEC contract obligations.
  • Create and maintain P6 design programmes, attend programme reviews and support change control, early warnings and risk management.
  • Raise, manage and resolve RFIs and technical queries during design and construction; perform constructability reviews.
  • Prepare and support handover documentation including O&M manuals and health & safety files.
  • Maintain project logs, registers and design‑related communications; support commercial and contract activities where required.
  • Ensure quality of pre‑construction surveys, site investigations and deliverables to support 'right‑first‑time' delivery.
  • Discharge CDM 2015 duties in the pre‑construction phase and ensure compliance with company HSE procedures; report incidents and manage HSE risks.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers and technicians; attend design and project progress meetings with stakeholders.
  • Contribute practical continuous‑improvement suggestions to improve processes and delivery outcomes.
Qualifications
Essential
  • Degree (or equivalent) in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, ICA or related engineering discipline — or demonstrable industry experience.
  • Proficient with Office 365 and common engineering workflows.
  • Solid understanding of health & safety regulations and safe working practices (CDM).
  • Strong communication skills and ability to coordinate multi‑party design activities.
Desirable
  • Familiarity with WIMES standards.
  • Experience in water & wastewater delivery.
  • Programme/schedule management experience (P6 desirable).
  • Commercial/contract awareness and BIM understanding.
  • PRINCE2 or similar project management qualification; SMSTS or NEBOSH.
