Project Engineer - Operations
Kent | Full-Time | Permanent | Office-Based

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced Project Engineer to join a leading engineering provider working across the water, utilities, and environmental sectors. If you’re a technically minded engineer who thrives on problem‑solving, coordinating works, and ensuring critical infrastructure performs at its best, this role offers the chance to take real ownership of service contracts and make a tangible impact. You’ll be joining a well‑established operations team where you’ll oversee the delivery of planned and reactive maintenance across wastewater treatment and pumping assets throughout the South and Midlands. This position is ideal for someone looking for long‑term stability, career progression, and exposure to a broad range of mechanical, electrical, and process equipment.

The Role

As a Project Engineer, you will manage engineering projects from start to finish, ensuring service contracts are delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Coordinating ongoing service and maintenance contracts across a range of wastewater assets
  • Planning site activities, organising service visits, and managing schedules with internal planning teams
  • Acting as a key technical contact for clients, offering clear updates and professional advice
  • Troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, and process‑related issues as they arise
  • Producing and reviewing service reports, asset condition assessments, upgrade recommendations, RAMS and technical documentation
  • Monitoring contract progress to ensure compliance with budget, timescales and quality standards
  • Overseeing materials and equipment procurement for all projects
  • Ensuring all works meet strict health, safety and environmental requirements
Equipment & Systems You’ll Commonly Work With

Pumping Systems:

  • Submersible/dry well pumps, booster sets, valves, pipework and control systems

Wastewater Treatment Equipment:

  • SAFs, MBBRs, activated sludge systems, screens, grit removal systems, settlement tanks, sludge handling equipment

Chemical & Process Dosing Systems:

  • Dosing pumps, storage tanks, bunds, instrumentation and monitoring equipment

Electrical & Control Equipment:

  • MCCs, sensors, flow meters, turbidity meters

Site & Install Equipment:

  • Lifting gear, pipework installation tools, commissioning and testing equipment
What We’re Looking For

Essential

  • Experience in the water and/or wastewater industry
  • Strong technical understanding of pumps, treatment systems or process equipment
  • Excellent problem‑sol, organisational and decision‑making skills
  • Confident communication skills, both written and client‑facing
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Full UK Driving Licence
  • CSCS card

Desirable

  • Confined Space, EUSR, Thames Water Passport, SHEA Water
  • SMSTS, Awareness
  • Emergency First Aid
  • HNC/HND/Degree or NVQ equivalent in Mech/Electrical/Civil Engineering
  • Willingness to expand knowledge across multiple engineering disciplines (training provided)
