A cultural organization in Scotland is seeking a Programmer to join their programming team, contributing to artistic events for the Assembly Festival and throughout the year. Job description

As part of the programming team, the Programmer will work to generate a leading artistic programme for Assembly Festival at the Fringe, and beyond.

Assembly sets the standard for theatre, comedy and entertainment on the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, by providing high calibre work in temporary theatre spaces in the magnificent Assembly Hall, Assembly Rooms, Assembly Roxy, Assembly Checkpoint, George Square Gardens and its surrounding spaces. In 2022, Assembly joined forces with Unique Events to form Unique Assembly, producing Edinburgh’s Christmas and Edinburgh’s Hogmanay. The Programming team also support activity within year-round building Assembly Roxy in the Edinburgh city centre.

As part of the programming team, the Programmer will work with the Head of Programming and Programme Coordinator to generate a leading artistic programme for Assembly Festival at the Fringe, and throughout the year. The Programming team are the first port of call for all visiting companies and artists and are responsible for the journey from initial conversations to fully realised festival seasons.

Person Specification:
Essential
  • Experience in programming across multiple genres
  • A knowledge of the current culture and arts market
  • Track record in establishing new artistic relationships
  • Proven history of seeking and nurturing new talent
  • Passionate about live events and the cultural industries
  • Excellent communication skills, and experience of working with artists
  • Can-do, problem-solving attitude
  • Ability to work independently as well as within a team
  • Competent across IT and software, including a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office, and willingness to learn other software programmes.
  • Experience of working with many different teams in a busy environment
Desirable
  • Relevant experience in events, artistic or festival programming or producing, in particular the Edinburgh Festival Fringe
  • Experience of working on a festival site and/or within a cultural venue or setting.
  • Experience of managing small to medium-sized budgets
  • Experience in production logistics and planning within the creative industries.

Location: The position will be based in Edinburgh. Some home working and flexible working patterns may be considered.

Hours: Evening and weekend work may be required in busier periods. The employee is entitled to twenty-five days leave per year, plus eight public holidays, at such time as agreed in advance. A typical working week will be 40hrs.

Salary: £33,500-£36,000 depending on experience.
