Job summary

A leading technology company in Birmingham seeks a Programme Quality Engineer on a temporary basis. The successful candidate will ensure robust quality planning and execution, supporting APQP deliverables in the automotive sector. Proven experience in quality engineering within the automotive industry is essential, alongside strong communication skills and expertise in Control Plan & PFMEA development. The role emphasizes proactive quality assurance and working cross-functionally to meet customer standards.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in Quality Engineering in Automotive 1st Tier.
  • Previous plastics and/or complex assembly experience preferred.
  • Comfortable conducting audits.

Job description
Programme Quality Engineer – Temporary

We have 1x 6-month FTC and 1x 12-month FTC available.

Main purpose of the job:
  • To ensure robust quality planning and execution across new programmes, supporting APQP deliverables and driving quality excellence from concept through to production. The role focuses on proactive quality assurance, auditing, and accountability across programme phases, ensuring that all deliverables meet customer and internal standards.
Main missions and results
  • Supporting APQP milestones and ensuring alignment with customer expectations.
  • Drive quality requirements through ISIR, capability studies, AAR, etc in support of NPI, APQP & PPAP.
  • Define & optimise measurement techniques to deliver a stable & capable production process utilising SPC and support DOE activities when required.
  • Support design reviews and prototype builds.
  • Develop and maintain Control Plans and support D/PFMEA reviews as appropriate.
  • Prepare, review, and audit PPAP submission packs.
  • Champion the use of APIS IQ software for FMEA management and documentation.
  • Provide training and guidance to cross-functional teams on programme quality expectations and standards.
  • Lead root cause analysis (e.g., 8D) and containment activities for programme-related quality concerns.
  • Support production team training in relation to the customer expectations and quality requirements.
  • Full PPAP pack generation.
  • Successful PSW with customer.
  • Robust manufacturing processes launched with relevant quality measures in place to ensure world class performance and delivery.
Preferred skills and experience
  • Proven experience in Quality Engineering in Automotive 1st Tier.
  • Degree, HND, HNC, IQA or equivalent.
  • Previous plastics and/or complex assembly experience preferred.
  • Strong expertise in Control Plan & PFMEA development and auditing.
  • Experience using APIS IQ software for PFMEA and Control plans.
  • Proven track record in preparing and reviewing PPAP documentation and control plans.
  • Comfortable conducting audits and holding cross-functional teams to account.
  • Solid understanding of APQP, IATF16949, and ISO9001 standards.
  • Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Strong communication and influencing abilities.
  • Automotive Tier 1 experience preferred.
  • Exposure to OEMs such as Jaguar Land Rover is a plus.
