Programme Manager - ELIXIR Human Genomics and Translational Data (HGTD)

ELIXIR is building the digital foundations of life science in Europe. At the heart of this mission, the Human Genomics and Translational Data (HGTD) team is creating a sustainable, interoperable ecosystem of frameworks, tools, services, and standards that enable secure, impactful use of human genomics data - from research to translation to medicine.
We are now seeking an Programme Manager for Human Genomics and Translational Data to help drive this mission forward.
Your role
As Programme Manager, you will operate at the strategic interface of science, infrastructure, and policy. Reporting to the Head of Human Genomics and Translational Data, you will lead and coordinate the development and delivery of a subset of ELIXIR’s external‑facing portfolio of high‑impact European projects, ensuring strong alignment with the ELIXIR Scientific Programme and with major European and global initiatives.
This is a highly visible role, ideal for an experienced coordinator or scientific leader who thrives in complex, multi‑partner environments and wants to make a lasting impact on European life science and medicine.
You will collaborate closely with the ELIXIR Hub, the 22 ELIXIR Nodes, and a wide network of funders, policymakers, researchers, and infrastructure providers across Europe.
What you will do
Shape strategy and external engagement
- Contribute to the strategy and delivery of ELIXIR’s external portfolio in human genomics and translational data;
- Identify and prioritise emerging scientific and technical topics of European importance;
- Build and sustain strategic partnerships with major initiatives and funders (e.g. 1+MG, Cancer Mission, GA4GH);
- Represent ELIXIR in major European and international project consortia.
Lead programme coordination and delivery
- Oversee and contribute to EU‑funded projects such as the European Genomic Data Infrastructure, CANDLE, and EU‑CIP;
- Ensure delivery of objectives, milestones, deliverables, and KPIs across distributed teams;
- Coordinate activities across ELIXIR Nodes and work closely with the ELIXIR PMO, Legal Services, External Relations, and Technical Teams;
- Lead or contribute to grant proposals and stakeholder engagement strategies;
- Ensure compliance with data governance, ethical, and legal frameworks.
Integrate communities, platforms, and standards
- Work with ELIXIR Human Data Communities and Technical Platforms to deliver towards overarching ambitions;
- Champion adoption of ELIXIR standards and open‑source solutions, including Federated EGA, Life Science AAI, and the ELIXIR Beacon Network;
- Contribute to scientific programmes at workshops, meetings, and conferences.
Provide leadership and representation
- Mentor and coordinate ELIXIR Hub staff and collaborate with Node‑based teams;
- Build trusted relationships with key stakeholders across Europe;
- Communicate progress, risks, and outcomes clearly and proactively;
- Author publications and represent ELIXIR at international events.
You have
- A university degree in life sciences, genetics, molecular biology, computer science, or a related field; an advanced degree or equivalent applied experience is highly valued;
- Substantial experience managing complex, multi‑partner research projects involving human genomics data;
- Proven experience in stakeholder coordination, consortium leadership, and grant writing;
- Strong understanding of biological data management, FAIR principles, metadata, ontologies, or related infrastructures;
- The ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and deliver high‑quality outcomes in a multidisciplinary setting;
- Excellent written and spoken English;
- Willingness to travel regularly across Europe.

- Experience with internationally significant genomics datasets;
- Familiarity with cloud computing, HPC, or life science software development;
This role is ideal for
- An experienced programme manage/coordinator with a strong grounding in human genomics; or
- A senior scientist ready to step into a strategic coordination role shaping Europe’s genomics data ecosystem.
Contract length: 3 years.
Salary: Grade 7, monthly salary from £4,206.37 after tax plus generous benefits (excluding pension and insurance contributions).
