Principal/Associate (or Associate Director level) Structural Engineer

Location: Cardiff

Salary: £65,000 – £80,000+ per annum (depending on experience)

The Opportunity

A well-established civil and structural engineering consultancy is seeking an experienced Structural Engineer to lead the delivery of a varied project portfolio. This role suits someone ready to take ownership of projects, uphold high technical quality, and support the ongoing growth of the structural team.

This position has arisen as part of planned succession within the senior technical leadership team, creating a long-term opportunity for further progression for the right candidate.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the technical delivery of multiple structural engineering commissions.
  • Maintain high standards of accuracy and quality across all project outputs.
  • Manage commercial performance, including fees and project delivery efficiency.
  • Engage confidently with clients across residential, commercial, industrial and renewable sectors.
  • Produce and review structural designs, reports and technical documentation.
  • Provide day-to-day guidance and mentorship to engineers and technicians.
  • Represent the structural discipline in multidisciplinary settings.
  • Support business development by nurturing existing relationships and identifying new opportunities.
About the Projects

The team works across a wide range of sectors, including:

  • Commercial and social housing
  • Care homes
  • Industrial developments
  • Renewable energy (including wind farm projects)
  • Remediation schemes
  • General commercial and industrial structures
  • Aspirations to expand further into rail sector projects

Most work is based in South Wales and the West of England, with projects also delivered across the UK.

Skills & Experience
  • Around 10+years’ post-graduate experience in structural engineering.
  • Strong technical knowledge across major structural materials.
  • Capable of taking full design responsibility for medium and large.
  • Chartered status desirable, but extensive equivalent experience also welcome.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Confident managing client relationships.
  • Familiarity with relevant structural design software such as: Tekla TSD / Tekla Portal Frame, Tedds, Revit Structure, AutoCAD
  • Full UK driving licence.
