Job summary

Royal Mail is seeking a Postal Delivery Driver (Postie) in Folkestone. The role is a fixed term contract for 9 months, 30 hours per week over 5 days in 7, with a starting rate of £13.68 per hour plus overtime. You will sort mail, deliver by van and on foot, and build relationships with customers while working outdoors in all weather.

Training, a uniform, and a red Royal Mail van are provided. Rotating shifts and weekend work are required; your rota confirms hours and routes that may vary with

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.

Working hours: 30:00 hours per week – working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday – 09:30 to 13:30/13:30 to 20:00*

What To Expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions
• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About You

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
