Job summary

Royal Mail in Peacehaven is looking for a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) to join on a 6-month fixed-term contract, 30 hours per week with rotating shifts across Monday to Sunday. The role involves sorting at the office and delivering letters and parcels by van and on foot.

You will build relationships with customers, work outdoors in all weather, and may include paid overtime. Full training and a uniform are provided.

Qualifications

• A full manual UK driving licence with up to 6 penalty points.
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and pass a driving assessment.
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, stairs, hills, and lifting 10 kg+.
• Reliable and self-motivated with strong organisation and resilience.

Job type: Fixed Term contract 6 months

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.
Working hours: 30.00hours per week – working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday – 7:00 - 15:00/14:30 - 21:00*

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

What to expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily

• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About you

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
