Job summary

Royal Mail Group in Wincanton is seeking a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) on a 9-month fixed-term contract to deliver letters and parcels across a rotating shift schedule. Expect 37 hours weekly, working five days in seven with start times between 08:00 and 10:00 and finish times 15:00–18:00, with overtime available.

You will walk and drive daily, cover some Sundays, and be the face of our trusted service, building relationships with customers in the local community.

Location: Wincanton Delivery Office, BA9 9ZZ

Job type: Fixed Termcontract 9 months

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.
Working hours: 37:00hours per week - working 5days in 7 across Monday - Sunday - start times between 08:00am & 10:00am/finishing times between 15:00pm & 18:00pm*. You will be required to be flexible to cover 8 hour shifts.

You'll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You'll be required to work around 1 in 6 Sundays at YeovilDelivery Office.

What to expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions
• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About you

We'll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You'll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
