Job summary

Royal Mail Group in Burnham-On-Sea is hiring a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) on a fixed-term 9-month contract. You will sort and deliver letters and parcels across your local area, working on rotating shifts including weekends, with a 37-hour week and a starting pay of £13.68 per hour plus paid overtime.

You will drive a Royal Mail van, walk long distances, and engage with customers outdoors in all weather.

Qualifications

• Full UK driving licence held in the UK with up to 6 penalty points
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and able to walk long distances, climb stairs/hills, and lift 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated, with good time management

Location: Burnham On Sea Delivery Office, TA8 1ER

Job type: Fixed Termcontract, 9 months

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.
Working hours: 37:00hours per week - working 5days in 7 across Monday - Sunday - 07:10/17:45*

Supporting two separate shifts, either 07:10 - 16:00 Letter Deliveries or 09:30 - 17:45 Parcel Deliveries.

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You’ll be required to work one in six Sundays at Bridgewater Delivery Office, TA6 3XX.

What to expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily

• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About you

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
