Job summary

Royal Mail is hiring a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) in Wigton for a fixed term of nine months. You will work 28 hours per week across Monday to Saturday with a rotating day off, delivering letters and parcels by van and on foot in the local area.

The role involves outdoor work, some weekends, and a rotating shift schedule. Full training, a uniform, and a uniform van are provided.

Job type: Fixed Term contract 9 Months

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.

Working hours: 28:00 hours per week – Monday - Saturday with rotating day off – 07:00/14:44*

What To Expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions
• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About You

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
