Job summary

Royal Mail in Darwen is hiring a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) to join the team on a 9-month fixed-term contract. You will deliver letters and parcels by van and on foot, work a rotating shift pattern 5 days in 7, and wear the iconic red uniform.

Training provided. You should hold a full manual UK driving licence (up to 6 penalty points), be physically fit to walk long distances, and enjoy working outdoors and independently.

Location: Darwen Delivery Office, BB3 1BR

Job type: Fixed Term contract (09 months)

Salary: £13.68 per hour*

(paid monthly) + paid overtime available.

Working hours: 35:00 hours per week – working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday – 08:00/15:30*

What To Expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily

• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About You

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment

• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
