Job summary

Royal Mail Group Wigton Delivery Office is seeking a Postie to deliver letters and parcels on a fixed-term 9-month contract. You will work 28 hours per week on a rotating shift Mon-Sat, starting early and with overtime opportunities.

You'll be active outdoors, delivering by van and on foot, and building strong relationships with customers in your community. Full training, a uniform, and a red Royal Mail van are provided.

Qualifications

• You’ll need a full manual UK driving licence with up to 6 penalty points.
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and pass a driving assessment.
• Physically fit for outdoor work and long walking distances.
• Reliable, self-motivated and customer-focused in a busy area.

Job type: Fixed Termcontract 9 Months

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.
Working hours: 28:00hours per week - Monday - Saturday with rotating day off - 07:00/14:44*

What to expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)


• Driving a Royal Mail van daily


• Working in all weather conditions


• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels


• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About you

We'll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)


• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment


• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags


• Reliable and self-motivated


• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment

• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
