Job summary

Royal Mail is hiring a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) for Kendal Delivery Office. The role is 30 hours per week on a rotating schedule across 5 days in 7, including Sundays. You will sort mail, deliver by van and on foot, and engage with customers in Kendal.

This fixed-term 9-month contract includes training, a uniform, and a chance to be active outdoors while delivering mail and parcels in all weather conditions.

Qualifications

• Full UK manual driving licence with up to 6 penalty points.
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and pass driving assessment.
• Physical fitness to walk long distances and lift 10kg+ mailbags.

Location: Kendal Delivery Office, LA9 4AA

Job type: Fixed Term contract (9 months)

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.

Working hours: 30.00 hours per week – working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday. Shifts may be 9am-4pm, 11:30am-5pm, 12pm-7pm*

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You’ll be required to work Sundays at Kendal Delivery Office.

What To Expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions
• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About You

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
