We're looking for a Portfolio Underwriting Manager to join a progressive MGA that's redefining how specialty business is underwritten -through data insight, partnership, and precision.
The Opportunity
- This is a rare chance to take ownership of a portfolio of Specialty Lines delegated authority schemes-managing performance, profitability, and growth while ensuring the highest standards of underwriting discipline and governance.
- You’ll be the vital link between Coverholders, pricing analysts, and capacity partners—leveraging data‑driven insights to make smart underwriting decisions and deliver sustainable, profitable results.

What You’ll Be Doing
- Lead the underwriting performance of specialty portfolios within agreed loss ratio and growth targets.
- Use MI and analytics to identify performance trends, opportunities, and emerging risks.
- Partner with Coverholders and capacity providers to drive continuous improvement and profitable growth.
- Lead and participate in portfolio performance reviews, producing actionable insight and recommendations.
- Contribute to the development of underwriting appetite, governance frameworks, and pricing sophistication.
- Mentor and support Underwriters, embedding a culture of technical rigour and accountability.
- Champion fair customer outcomes and uphold the highest governance standards.
What You’ll Bring
- Proven experience in Specialty Lines underwriting—such as Professional Indemnity, D&O, Gadget, Event, Non‑Standard Property or niche Casualty.
- Strong analytical and data interpretation skills; comfortable working with MI and portfolio data.
- A commercial mindset that balances underwriting discipline with growth opportunity.
- Excellent communication and influencing skills; able to build trusted relationships across the market.
- Sound knowledge of delegated authority business, underwriting governance, and regulatory standards.
- CII qualified (or working towards ACII) preferred.
