Job summary

Marks & Spencer plc in the UK is hiring a Software Engineering Manager to lead the Platform team. You’ll help streamline development for 200+ engineers across 30+ applications, building reusable pipelines, tooling, and frameworks to boost developer experience while contributing code.

You’ll guide technical vision, mentor senior engineers, drive recruitment, cultivate DevOps culture, and collaborate with engineering leadership to align with strategy and OKRs.

Qualifications

• Experience building and leading teams of senior engineers.
• Excellent understanding of system design, software architecture, cloud and best practices.
• Promoter of DevOps: you build it, you run it.
• Strong testing and reliability engineering background.
• Excellent people management and communication skills.
• Ability to influence senior leaders and technical partners.

Responsibilities

• Be accountable for engineering excellence within your teams across operations and production.
• Lead alignment with the broader technical strategy and platform governance.
• Act as platform owner to empower digital products with data-driven thinking.
• Collaborate with engineering leadership to maintain strategic alignment and scalable growth.
• Line manage staff and senior engineers; drive recruitment and retention.
• Own OKRs within your hub and support community initiatives.
