Job summary

Marks & Spencer is seeking a Software Engineering Manager to lead the AI Engineering platform within the M&S Platform team. You will support the team, shape the technical vision for reusable pipelines, tooling, plugins, and frameworks, and contribute code along the way.

You will manage senior engineers, align with the technical strategy, and drive recruitment while ensuring engineering excellence across 200+ engineers and 30+ applications for customer- and colleague-facing products.

Qualifications

Previous hands-on senior software engineer with polyglot skills.
Excellent knowledge in AI coding tools and agentic technologies.
Experience leading teams of senior software engineers delivering high-quality software.
Strong understanding of system design, cloud, and software engineering practices.

Responsibilities

Accountable for engineering excellence within teams.
Lead self-management and talent development.
Align with the overarching technical strategy across the Technology organisation.
Act as a platform owner enabling digital products through data and customer centricity.
Collaborate with engineering leadership to ensure strategic alignment.
Line manage Staff and Senior Engineers and drive recruitment.
Custodian of OKRs within the hub.
Support engineering communities to progress alignment efficiently.
When vendors are involved, act as key technical partner.
