Our client is looking for a skilled Plant Engineer passionate about working on a wide range of high-performance agricultural and plant equipment based just outside Shrewsbury. You'll play a vital role in servicing, maintaining, and troubleshooting a diverse fleet—including Manitou telehandlers, compact loaders (skid steers), and attachments, as well as Kuhn grassland machinery such as mowers, tedders, rakes, balers, wrappers, and flail mowers, plus Richard Western trailers and Shelbourne feeders, bedders, and muck spreaders.

This predominantly field-based role also includes some workshop responsibilities, ideal for someone who thrives on variety and enjoys balancing on-site diagnostics with fine-tuning and repairs in a controlled environment.

Plant Engineer Job Overview
  • Carry out service, maintenance, and repair work on a variety of agricultural and plant equipment.
  • Work predominantly in the field, attending customer sites to diagnose faults and perform repairs.
  • Spend time in the workshop completing in-depth repairs, refurbishments, and pre-delivery inspections.
  • Maintain and repair equipment such as telehandlers, skid steers, grassland implements, trailers, feeders, bedders, and muck spreaders.
  • Apply strong mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical skills to resolve issues effectively.
  • Provide both reactive and preventative maintenance to ensure optimal equipment performance.
Plant Engineer Job Requirements
  • Proven experience working with a range of machinery, preferably within the agricultural, commercial vehicle, or construction sectors, supported by a relevant qualification in Land-Based Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Strong customer service skills, with the ability to build and maintain positive relationships that ensure a high level of satisfaction.
  • Clear and effective communication skills, both internally and externally, to support efficient planning and smooth progression of work.
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to set realistic timescales for tasks, ensuring deadlines are met without compromising on safety or quality.
  • Consistently present a professional and approachable image.
  • Full, valid UK driving licence.
Plant Engineer Salary & Benefits
  • Hours: 8:00am-5:00pm, Monday to Friday. Part-time arrangements may be considered for the right candidate (minimum 3 days per week).
  • Saturdays: Required on a rota basis.
  • Holiday: Up to 25 days annual leave plus Bank Holidays, increasing with length of service.
  • Salary: £35,000-£45,000, dependent on skills and experience.
  • Overtime: Paid at time and a half, with double time on Sundays and Bank Holidays.
  • Benefits: Company van provided.
