Job summary

Kier Group plc is seeking a Planner to join the Birmingham Highways Maintenance Contract team based in Thimble Mill Lane, Birmingham. The role is an 8-month fixed term contract, 40 hours per week.

You will develop, maintain and monitor programmes, optimize resources, mitigate risks and ensure delivery on time, within budget, and compliant with governance standards. Strong organisation, stakeholder engagement and proficiency with MS Office and project planning tools are essential.

Responsibilities

• Ensure alignment of project timelines with overall programme objectives and track milestones.
• Plan and allocate resources across multiple projects, identifying gaps and proposing solutions.
• Prepare reports and dashboards for stakeholders and senior leadership.
• Identify scheduling conflicts and risks early and propose corrective actions and contingency plans.
• Liaise with project managers, contractors, and internal teams while maintaining programme governance with permits.

We’re looking for a Planner to join our Birmingham Highways Maintenance Contract team based in Thimble Mill Lane. We’re seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Planner who will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and monitoring programmes to ensure the successful delivery of our Capital Works programme. This role will provide critical planning support, optimise resource allocation, and mitigate risks to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in compliance with governance standards.

What will you be responsible for?

As a Planner, you’ll be working within the Birmingham Highways Maintenance Contract team, supporting them in delivering capital works projects successfully. Your day to day will include:

• Ensuring alignment of individual project timelines with overall programme objectives and tracking progress against milestones
• Planning and allocating resources effectively across multiple projects, identifying gaps and proposing solutions
• Preparing accurate reports and dashboards for stakeholders and senior leadership
• Identifying potential scheduling conflicts and risks early, recommending corrective actions and contingency plans
• Liaising with project managers, contractors, and internal teams whilst maintaining programme compliance with streetworks permits

Brings experience from a highways maintenance, infrastructure, or construction environment

• Has successfully developed and managed project programmes for capital works or construction projects
• Thrives in a fast-paced setting, with excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
• Builds strong working relationships through clear communication and effective stakeholder engagement
• Uses Microsoft Office and project planning software confidently to support project delivery, identify risks, and solve problems
