Job description

St Austell Healthcare are seeking a Phlebotomist to join our busy practice. This is a full time position and will include some Saturday working in the Ophthalmology clinic, and some late shifts, both on a rota basis.

Rate of pay will be dependent on experience.

Main duties of the job

Clinical Skills

  • Undertake, record and follow guidelines for the tasks for which you have received appropriate training.
  • Venepuncture.
  • Urinalysis and preparation of specimens for investigation by the pathology laboratory.

Measuring and recording:

  • blood pressure
  • pulse rate and rhythm
  • temperature
  • height and weight
  • body mass index

Specific Responsibilities

Clinical Skills

  • Undertake, record and follow guidelines for the tasks for which you have received appropriate training.
  • Venepuncture.
  • Urinalysis and preparation of specimens for investigation by the pathology laboratory.

Measuring and recording:

  • Prepare and maintain environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions.
  • Ensure GPs rooms and clinical treatment rooms are clean and well stocked.
  • Give accurate and appropriate information to patients and groups within own competence.
  • Act as a chaperone, when requested.
  • Record information and activities undertaken with patients and carers in an accurate and timely fashion using manual or computer systems and read codes.
  • Assist within Ophthalmology clinics on a Saturday rota basis.
  • Late shifts on a rota basis
Experience
  • Previous experience within general practice/healthcare sector
  • Experience of working in a busy and fast paced environment
  • Knowledge of Data Protection Act and how this is applied in General Practice
  • Experience of using SystmOne computer system
  • Awareness of the importance of safeguarding and procedures
  • Previous experience of working in a pressured environment
Skills
  • Self-motivated with the ability to use own initiative

  • Able to work on own initiate and as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Be able to multi-task and follow tasks through to their conclusion

  • Educated to GCSE grade C and above in Maths and English or equivalent or substantial experience in similar role will be considered.
