Job description
Personal Tax Assistant (12‑month maternity cover) - £35,000 - £40,000

You’re working in an accountancy practice and enjoy handling the personal tax element of your job.

But maybe the environment you’re in isn’t working for you.

And you’d choose a twelve‑month contract in a supportive, competent and good‑humoured team, where you’re allowed to manage your own hours, given half a chance.

You might be ATT or CAT qualified, but you’ll be technically competent with depth of experience in personal tax return processing, working unsupervised.

Managing your own portfolio of sole‑traders, partnerships and limited company directors to ensure collation of information, accurate processing and timely returns to HMRC.

With relationship building and hard‑work this small tax team have educated clients and improved methods to ensure that January isn’t unmanageable. This is not a firm where you’ll need to open up your laptop after hours, except in very exceptional circumstances.

And you’ll have two experienced tax colleagues you can call upon when you need help.

Prior experience of CCH and Iris software would be helpful, but not essential.

You’ll work for a two‑partner firm, with a great local reputation and offering employment stability with a competent, long‑standing team of about 25 people.

Encouraged to work flexibly, you’ll be covering a 37.5‑hour week, choosing the time you set your alarm clock. For exceptional applicants a four‑day week will be considered. Early bird? There will be like‑minded people in the office at 7.30 am. But if you like to arrive at 10 am and finish at 6 pm? But you decide what works best for you as long as you cover the core hours between 10 am and 4 pm.

Once you’ve had a few weeks of settling in and work handover, you’ll also enjoy hybrid‑working (a couple of days a week from home). Most of the people here enjoy working in the office rather than from home, but it’s a choice.

On‑site, there’s no problem with parking, and if you’re reliant upon public transport, the firm is outside the city centre, with very easy access by bus.

Holiday is 31 days per annum for full‑time workers, keeping three days aside for Christmas closure. And it’s possible to buy and sell days.

You’ll also get auto enrolled into the pension scheme.

All applications will be reviewed by a human‑being, with successful applications invited for a discovery call with a recruiter. Beyond this, there will be a face‑to‑face interview on‑site at the practice.
