Job Overview

Female self-employed PA required to provide companionship for a lovely, still‑sprightly 93‑year‑old lady with dementia, whilst the client, her daughter, has some well‑earned respite. The client and her husband live with mum, and these hours will be mainly to enable them both to spend some days out together, which they have not been able to do for several years.

Responsibilities

5 hours of respite support are required per week, preferably on a Friday each week from 11am to 4pm initially, however there may be some flexibility with regards to how these hours are used in further discussion with the client.

Her mum has a kindly and determined nature and likes to remain as independent as possible. Mum can still manage her own continence needs, however there may be some possible support required when toileting in case of accidents. You will need to monitor mum's whereabouts closely and should be aware if she is moving around, as she requires support to prevent falls and trips. Mum spends most of her time in her room upstairs.

Though mum can show confusion at times, it is hoped that someone could build up a trusting rapport with her and keep her meaningfully occupied with conversation, activities and just simple companionship. Mum spends time watching tv and she has been known to enjoy music and singing in the past.

At times where mum is safe and occupied, there may also be some light domestic tasks which can be undertaken at the client's request.

There is also a friendly but lively Border‑Collie dog at the property, who can bark loudly at times - so you would need to be comfortable with larger dogs.

Requirements

Enhanced DBS and two references are required.

A clean driving licence with business insurance would be beneficial, but not essential.
