Job summary

awg is seeking a Permit Control Officer at our Whitlingham, Norwich site to oversee the permit-to-work process for high-risk activities, ensuring all work is authorised, coordinated and safe. You will drive daily permit meetings, validate risk assessments, monitor compliance, and lead on-site safety initiatives.

Ideal candidates will have experience with PTW systems on high-hazard sites, strong H&S knowledge, and excellent communication skills to influence improvements and foster teamwork.

Qualifications

• Demonstrable experience working within a Permit To Work system and on operational or high-hazard sites.
• A strong understanding of health & safety and process safety regulations.
• Proven ability to assess risks and make sound operational decisions.
• Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the confidence to challenge and drive improvement.
• A passion for teamwork, continuous learning, and delivering high-quality results.
• Health & safety qualification (minimum IOSH level).

Responsibilities

• Manage, issue, and close permits for site activities, ensuring robust risk assessment and compliance.
• Host daily permit meetings to coordinate tasks and prevent conflicts (SIMOPs).
• Conduct site inductions, inspections, and audits to uphold safety standards.
• Oversee mechanical and electrical isolations (LOTO) and site access controls.
• Support incident management and communicate lessons learned.
• Collaborate with operational teams and stakeholders to drive efficiency and continuous improvement.
