Job summary

Anglian Water Services in Basildon is hiring a Permit Control Officer to manage the PTW process for high-risk activities, driving safety, compliance and continuous improvement. You’ll coordinate with site teams, review risk assessments and lead on-site safety initiatives.

The role focuses on permit lifecycle management, daily meetings, LO TO controls and collaboration to meet environmental and performance targets, with a strong health & safety emphasis.

Qualifications

• Demonstrable experience working within a Permit To Work system and on operational or high-hazard sites.
• A strong understanding of health & safety and process safety regulations.
• Proven ability to assess risks and make sound operational decisions.
• Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the confidence to challenge and drive improvement.
• A passion for teamwork, continuous learning, and delivering high-quality results.
• Health & safety qualification (minimum IOSH level).

Responsibilities

• Manage, issue, and close permits for site activities, ensuring robust risk assessment and compliance.
• Host daily permit meetings to coordinate tasks and prevent conflicts (SIMOPs).
• Conduct site inductions, inspections, and audits to uphold safety standards.
• Oversee mechanical and electrical isolations (LOTO) and site access controls.
• Support incident management and communicate lessons learned.
• Collaborate with operational teams and stakeholders to drive efficiency and continuous improvement.
