Job summary

awg is hiring a Permit Control Officer in Basildon to oversee the full permit-to-work process for high-risk activities, ensuring authorisation, coordination, and safe execution. You will drive daily permit meetings, validate risk assessments, and lead on-site safety initiatives.

The role requires a strong background in PTW, health & safety regulations, and a proactive mindset to minimise risks and support continuous improvement in water operations.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience working within a Permit To Work system on high-hazard sites.
• Strong understanding of health & safety and process safety regulations.
• Ability to assess risks and make sound operational decisions.
• Excellent communication and influencing skills.
• Commitment to teamwork and continuous learning.

Responsibilities

• Manage, issue, and close permits for site activities with risk assessment and compliance.
• Host daily permit meetings to coordinate tasks (SIMOPs) and prevent conflicts.
• Conduct site inductions, inspections and audits to uphold safety standards.
• Oversee mechanical and electrical isolations (LOTO) and site access controls.
• Support incident management and communicate lessons learned.
• Collaborate with operations teams to drive efficiency and continuous improvement.
