Job description
Overview

The Manchester Inpatient Perinatal Service, situated at Laureate House at Wythenshawe Hospital, is recruiting an experienced RMN to join our inpatient service and support the wider inpatient unit. The successful applicant will be a registered RMN with an interest in perinatal mental health. Andersen Ward specialises in the treatment and care of women who develop serious mental illness or relapse during the antenatal and postnatal period. A core part of the role requires you to support mothers and to develop/maintain a relationship with their babies. Family and carer involvement is a significant part of the ward culture, and we promote and support their involvement. The service has strong working partnerships with a wide range of professionals, such as midwives, health visitors, social care and children services across the Northwest, so you will need excellent communication skills and the ability to work well within a large multidisciplinary team. We are looking for a highly motivated individual with a keen interest in infant development and women's mental health. We encourage personal development through managerial and clinical supervision, with a variety of training opportunities within the trust and further training in perinatal mental health provided.

Responsibilities
  • Provide and develop, in conjunction with the multidisciplinary team and other relevant agencies, a high-quality service for patients and carers that considers physical, psychological, spiritual and social needs.
  • Develop and support a culture that values people’s rights, enables informed choices, and recognises everyone’s right to valued lifestyle, positive social experiences and access to valued resources.
  • Lead and contribute to the smooth running of the unit in a way that reflects the philosophies of the unit, service and hospital.
  • Contribute to maintaining a therapeutic and safe environment for patients, staff and visitors during duty periods.
Qualifications
  • Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN) with an interest in perinatal mental health.
  • Experience in inpatient settings and a demonstrated ability to work within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong communication skills and an ability to engage with mothers, babies and families while supporting carers.
  • Commitment to infant development and women’s mental health, with openness to supervision and professional development.
