Job summary

Staffordshire University Academy is seeking a Student Support Officer to join our pastoral team. The role involves supporting students in small groups or one-to-one, helping them to overcome barriers and achieve potential, in a friendly collaborative environment.

You will work Monday to Friday, 32.5 hours per week, term-time plus inset days, with duties including structured student support, safeguarding, behavior management, and progress monitoring. Prior experience with 11-18s is desirable.

Qualifications

• Experience working with 11-18 year olds is desirable.
• Calm, patient and able to build strong relationships.
• Skilled at managing challenging situations professionally and empathetically.
• Excellent communication and organisational abilities.
• Willingness to undertake safeguarding training if needed.

Responsibilities

• Provide structured support for students in planned programmes.
• Promote high standards and positive behaviour.
• Support Graduated Response plans for identified students.
• Ensure student safety and welfare, including basic first aid and welfare support.
• Accompany staff and students on trips and off-site activities when required.
• Encourage positive engagement with learning and peers.
• Act as keyworker for identified students and provide pastoral support.
• Assist teachers with behaviour management and classroom organisation.
• Monitor and record student progress and provide feedback.
