Job summary

Staffordshire University Academy seeks a Student Support Officer (Teaching Assistant) to work with small groups or one-to-one, helping students reach their potential both inside and outside school. You will provide structured support, promote positive behaviour, and assist with safeguarding and welfare, DBS checks required where applicable.

The role involves accompanying staff on trips, supporting literacy and numeracy, and building strong relationships with students and staff to improve

Qualifications

• Experience in working with young people (in schools, youth work, mentoring, care or similar).
• Calm, patient and able to build strong relationships.
• Skilled at managing challenging situations professionally and empathetically.
• Effective communicator with strong organisational skills.
• Knowledgeable about safeguarding or willing to undertake training.
• Resilient, caring and motivated to make a positive impact.

Responsibilities

• Provide structured support for students following planned programmes set by staff.
• Help raise standards by promoting high expectations and positive behaviour.
• Support Graduated Response plans for identified students.
• Ensure student safety and wellbeing, including basic first aid and welfare.
• Accompany staff and students on trips and off-site activities when required.
• Encourage positive engagement with learning and interaction with others.
• Act as keyworker for identified students, offering pastoral support.
• Assist teachers with behaviour management and classroom organisation.
• Monitor and record student progress, providing feedback to teachers.
• Support curriculum activities, including literacy, numeracy, SEN and ICT.
