Job summary

A leading engineering service provider is seeking a Parts Cleaner/Inspector for an ongoing contract in Burton-on-Trent. Candidates should have at least one year of experience in the rail or automotive industry and hold an NVQ Level 2 in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent. Responsibilities include cleaning and inspecting parts and mentoring trainees. The role requires mechanical orientation and good problem-solving skills. Shift schedule is Monday to Thursday, from 2:30 PM to 1 AM.

Duration: Minimum 3 months

Schedule: Afternoons Monday to Thursday 2.30pm to 1am

Job Overview

We are currently recruiting for a Parts Cleaner/Inspector for an ongoing contract based in the Burton-on-Trent area for an engineering client. Candidates must have own transport due to site location.

Key Duties & Responsibilities
  • General cleaning and preparation of engine, transmission and raft parts using manual tools, dual acting sander (DA) scrapers, etc.
  • Load / unload parts into cleaning machines.
  • Follow the relevant working instructions / process plans etc.
  • Inspect for signs of damage/wear.
  • Disassemble parts for re-use/deep cleaning.
  • Record acceptance or rejection of parts on inspection report.
  • Identify structural and material defects.
  • Interpret and present findings of faults.
  • Understand the production schedule, and work closely with production and engineering to build a schedule that delivers minimum interruption to manufacturing output.
  • Maintain NDT equipment as and when required.
  • Mentor trainees / apprentices when applicable.
  • Work to and support all relevant 5S activities.
  • Report any near misses.
  • Ensure that waste is disposed of in the correct manner.
  • Report any issues or problems with jobs to the line manager.
  • Take on any other reasonable responsibilities or tasks that are within the employee's skills and abilities.
  • Adhere at all times to the company's Health, Safety & Environmental instructions and requirement.
Background & Experience
  • Minimum 1-year experience in relevant rail or automotive industry.
  • Be practical mechanically oriented.
  • Possess good problem-solving skills.
Qualifications / Education
  • NVQ Level 2 in Mechanical Engineering equivalent or above.
  • Recognised NDT qualification or equivalent is desirable.
