Job summary

SP Energy Networks in Glasgow is seeking a Design Engineer (OHL) to develop and deliver engineering solutions for transmission projects up to 400kV, reporting to the Overhead Line Engineering Section Head. You will own pre‑contract design, prepare specifications and drawings, assess submissions, and support construction, procurement and commissioning, with a focus on safety and environmental compliance.

This permanent hybrid role offers a salary from £45,400 per annum and a benefits package

Qualifications

• Degree or HND in Electrical/Mechanical/Civil Engineering or equivalent with professional membership towards a chartered body.
• Experience delivering designs for transmission projects and overhead line systems.
• Strong communication and cross‑functional collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Own pre‑contract design information and provide technical guidance to delivery teams for OHL systems.
• Prepare detailed engineering specifications and drawings for high‑value transmission projects.
• Review submissions, define equipment requirements for SCA and technical specs, and ensure safety, quality and environmental compliance.
• Prepare project quality documentation and ensure deliverables meet SP Energy Networks standards.
• Evaluate new technologies and methods to improve efficiency, safety, and cost.
