Job description

We have a fantastic opportunity to join Thames Water as an Operations Performance Manager based at our wastewater treatment site on the outskirts of Oxford.

You will lead a newly created frontline support team of technicians responsible for supporting the day-to-day operations and improvements of wastewater treatment processes at Oxford STW for the project upgrade, within the Thames Valley North Area of Waste & Bioresources Operations.

With the impact of our operations on the environment being at the forefront of everything we do, you will steer performance improvements on the site, with the opportunity to implement changes for the betterment of all parties, primarily our customers and the environment.

What you’ll be doing as a Performance Manager
  1. Health and Safety – Lead the Health & Safety culture of the team, fostering an environment where good practices are routine and compliance is maintained.
  2. Process Management – Ensure the site meets its plant availability and reliability targets to comply with regulatory standards, safeguarding the environment.
  3. Performance Management – Drive the team to achieve optimal performance, develop skills, and promote Health & Safety awareness.
  4. Financial Management – Manage the team’s budget and drive operational efficiencies.
  5. Customer & Stakeholder Management – Provide exceptional service to customers with proactive interventions as needed.

Additional details:

  • Base location: Oxford Sewage Treatment Works, OX4 4XU
  • Working pattern: 36 hours/week, Monday to Friday
  • Internal job title: Project Support Team Coordinator
What you should bring to the role

We seek an experienced people manager with:

  • Proven success in managing operational teams with strong leadership, coaching, and motivation skills.
  • Experience in leading and promoting a Health & Safety culture, with IOSH or equivalent qualification preferred.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, adaptable and decisive in a fast-paced environment.
  • A track record of raising team standards.

Computer literacy and data analysis skills using Microsoft packages are essential.
