Job summary

Relay is seeking a Site Manager to lead 50-100+ operatives on high-volume sortation shifts at Hybrid Sort Centres in the UK. You will own shift plans, deploy people, ensure safety standards, and drive performance across throughput and quality metrics.

You will be on the floor every shift, building robust mechanisms, addressing risks, and coordinating handovers to sustain flow and meet deadlines in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Scaled something from zero: a site, a market, a process or a program.
• Managed a physical operation: quick commerce, grocery, e-commerce fulfillment, last mile, 3PL, food production, airport ground handling, rail.
• Communicate in both directions and have strong people management skills: brief 80 operatives at shift start and escalate to senior leadership the same day.
• Built a mechanism that held: a control, a cadence, a metric, a document standard that changed frontline work.
• Own numbers rather than report them: name a metric you created or redefined and explain changes.

Responsibilities

• Deliver shift plan end-to-end including people deployment, throughput, quality standards, and health & safety compliance.
• Lead, develop, and performance-manage a frontline team of 50-100+ operatives.
• Build and own the operational controls, cadences, metrics, SOPs and change-management for the site.
• Plan ahead for future shifts: manage labour and training risks before they land.
• Own the end-of-shift handover: communicate status, risks, and needs to the next shift.
• Stay decisive through volume peaks, outages, and labour gaps; triage and resolve issues to restore flow.
