The Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training on Learning Disability and Autism is named after Oliver McGowan, whose death shone a light on the need for health and social care staff to have better training.

North London NHS Foundation Trust, working on behalf of the North Central London Integrated Care System, have an exciting opportunity to join the Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training Team.

We are looking for Co‑Trainers with a Learning Disability to co‑deliver the Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training for Learning Disability and Autism alongside Facilitating Trainers and Autistic Co‑Trainers to our health workforce.

The role plays a key part in delivering The Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training on Learning Disability and Autism to people who work in health and social care services within the North Central London Integrated Care System (NCL ICS).

The successful Co‑Trainer will be supported to deliver training which topics include:

  • Learning disability awareness and/or understanding autism.
  • Reasonable adjustments.
  • Supporting people with a learning disability and autistic people.
  • Communication.

Full training and ongoing support will be provided to successful co‑trainers to enable them to carry out this role. The role will include ‘Train the Trainer’ training to become part of the team delivering Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training. Co‑Trainers will become approved co‑trainers to deliver the Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training and be supported to deliver the training in the way that best matches their needs and abilities.

The post holder will be part of an Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training Team, alongside other Experts with Lived Experience Co‑trainers, Facilitating Trainers, Lead Trainer and support staff.

In order to meet the needs of the Trust you may be required from time to time to work at different locations to your normal place of work. This may mean that you are required to work at any location that fall under Barnet, Camden, Enfield, Haringey or Islington. The Trust reserves the right to require staff to work at such other places or locations as it considers reasonable and necessary on a temporary or permanent basis.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver on‑going Oliver McGowan Mandatory staff training to NCL NHS Clinical and Non-Clinical staff.
  • Communicate information which may be complex and sensitive to learners at the training sessions.
  • Develop good working relationships with training teams to co‑deliver the training.
  • Be reliable and trustworthy.
  • Participate in relevant Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training planning, preparation and debrief meetings to enable getting ready for and learning from training.
  • Take part in ‘Train the Trainer’ training and rehearsals to develop skills and confidence to deliver high quality training.
  • Review training feedback with the Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training Team, contributing suggestions for continuous improvement.
  • Manage and prioritise day‑to‑day activities in line with the team workload, priorities, and deadlines.
  • Act as an advocate for learning disabilities across the NCL NHS Trusts.
  • Use Microsoft applications including PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook and Teams.
