Occupational Health Nurse

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Registered Nurse with Occupational Health or Practice Nurse experience to join an established in-house Nurse led Occupational Health Service at Nottinghamshire Healthcare Trust.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, flexible and motivated (Band 5) Nurse who can demonstrate relevant experience within similar roles and can work within a multidisciplinary team to provide advice and support to Trust staff and managers.

The successful candidate will have opportunities for additional training and development to undertake the full remit of the post.

The Staff Health & Wellbeing Services at Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust includes Occupational Health, Wellbeing, Mediation, Physiotherapy, Counselling and Psychological Services.

Although this role will be based at Duncan Macmillan House, the post holder will be required to work flexibly between other Trust sites to meet service requirements.

Please note applicants will be required to pay for their DBS check. Costs are deducted from salary following appointment. The cost of the DBS application is £26.40 (standard) or £54.40 (enhanced), this cost will be deducted from your salary over the first 2 months of employment.

You are encouraged to enrol for the DBS Update Service. An annual fee of £16 per year applies

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will carry out a varied role, including immunisation assessments / clinics, venepuncture, pre-employment fitness assessment, advice to staff and managers, risk assessment-based health surveillance programmes, and blood exposure incident support and advice.

Possess the clinical skills needed to undertake activities including - venepuncture, spirometry, skin surveillance, immunisations and other specialist screening procedures for the protection of staff health.

Maintain clinical practice and registration in accordance with NMC code. Be responsible for updating own professional knowledge in Occupational Health, including identifying and addressing professional needs.

Job responsibilities

Work autonomously by managing and prioritising the occupational health care of individuals and groups according to needs and risk assessments.

The post-holder will have day to day responsibility for the provision of a comprehensive immunisation, screening and health surveillance programmes.

In association with Control of Infection, manage specific illnesses and infections associated with the workplace to maintain a safe clinical environment.

Undertake a range of confidential health surveillance, screenings, assessments and immunisation services for employees and prospective employees to determine their suitability for employment.

Experience
  • Experience of working within an Occupational Health / Practice Nursing setting or similar area of practice.
  • Demonstrate sound understanding and knowledge of occupational health practice
  • Wellbeing and Health Promotion experience
  • Knowledge of risk management processes
Qualifications
  • Current registration with NMC - 1st level Registered Nurse
  • Evidence of continuing professional development and application
