The Post
The Night Supervisor is responsible for supporting the Night Manager in leading and managing the University's overnight operations, ensuring a safe, secure and welcoming environment across the campus and residential estate for staff, students and members of the public. The role has direct supervisory responsibility for Security Officers and provides operational leadership and coordination across overnight accommodation, residence life, cleaning and campus support services.
The post operates on a rota basis covering 12-hour shifts between 6.00pm and 6.00am, three shifts per week. Attendance at daytime training events, University events and operational planning activities will occasionally be required.
Acting as a senior operational presence during the night, the postholder exercises independent judgement in responding to incidents, managing operational priorities, allocating resources and maintaining service continuity when daytime management teams are unavailable.
The role works collaboratively with Accommodation Operations Assistants, Cleaning Services colleagues, Student Services, Estates, external contractors and emergency services to ensure the effective delivery of overnight services. Whilst the role provides operational direction and coordination across multiple service areas, line management responsibility for Accommodation Operations Assistants and other support teams remains with their respective managers.
This role requires a proactive and highly visible presence across campus, with responsibility for incident management, in-the-moment student welfare engagement and signposting, coordination of emergency services, operational decision-making and maintaining service standards throughout overnight operations.
