Job summary

YMCA Reading is seeking a Night Housing Support Assistant to provide overnight support for service users, ensuring safety and calm handling of challenges. You’ll work 21:15–08:15 on a 4 on/4 off rota, with weekend and bank holiday cover as needed. Strong communication and a proactive, customer-facing approach are essential.

Qualifications

Calm and professional approach to challenging behaviours.
Ability to take initiative and work with minimal supervision.
Experience in housing, support, or charity sectors.
Flexibility to cover rota shifts.
Comfortable working in a resident/customer-facing environment.

Responsibilities

Support health and safety checks to keep facilities in top condition.
Handle deliveries, respond to emergencies, assist housekeeping as needed.
Conduct site safety patrols and identify issues.
Address anti-social behaviours when they arise.
Maintain records on the in-house IT system.
Record accidents or incidents properly.
Provide handovers and support service users with follow-up actions.
Represent YMCA Reading with professionalism in all interactions.
