Job summary

Tarmac Trading Limited invites applications for a Multi Skilled Operative (Nightshift) at the Mountsorrel Asphalt Plant. You will work in a hands-on role supporting the RAP yard, operating loading shovel and other mobile plant, with rotating 5pm–3am shifts, Monday to Friday plus every other Saturday.

Candidates with enthusiasm for learning, a strong work ethic and willingness to develop technical and supervisory skills are encouraged to apply.

Qualifications

• Experience or interest in plant or mobile machinery operations.
• Shovel licence desirable but not essential.
• Excavator licence essential.
• A flexible, team-focused approach.
• Motivation, good time keeping and strong work ethic.
• Clear communication skills and confidence to escalate issues when needed.
• IT literacy and full UK driving licence.

Job description

Reporting to the Operations Manager, you'll play a key role in the safe, efficient day‑to‑day running of the RAP Yard, contributing to production targets and high-quality outputs.

Responsibilities

• Mixing asphalt to specification
• Production of RAP to specification
• Working collaboratively to deliver quality materials and on‑time customer deliveries
• Weighbridge operations
• Operating mobile plant including loading shovel
• Supporting Supervisors with daily and weekly production targets
• Carrying out inspections, identifying defects and implementing remedial actions
• Assisting with planned and reactive plant maintenance
• Ensuring housekeeping standards are consistently high
• Actively promoting and operating to Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality standards

This is a hands‑on, varied role suited to someone who enjoys operational responsibility and being part of a production‑focused team.

This role offers real variety, structured training, and development opportunities within a busy operational environment. Previous asphalt or plant experience is beneficial but not essential – we're more interested in your attitude, work ethic and willingness to learn. Working hours – Rotating shift pattern 5 pm – 3 am, Monday – Friday plus every other Saturday. We're keen to hear from candidates with experience in industrial, factory, manufacturing or similar operational environments, and from those who want to develop their technical and supervisory skills over time.
