Job summary

Tarmac is recruiting a Multi Skilled Operative for nightshift at the Mountsorrel Asphalt Plant near Loughborough. The role is hands‑on, with varied duties and training to develop operational skills in a busy RAP yard.

Experience in industrial environments is helpful; licences for excavator and shovel are important, plus a full UK driving licence. We offer structured development and a supportive team environment.

Qualifications

• Experience in industrial, factory or manufacturing environments preferred.
• Shovel licence is desirable but not essential.
• Excavator licence is essential.
• Must be able to work as part of a team and follow safety procedures.

Responsibilities

• Mixing asphalt to specification.
• Production of RAP to specification.
• Support production targets and on‑time deliveries.
• Weighbridge operations.
• Operate mobile plant including loading shovel.
• Assist Supervisors with daily/weekly targets.
• Carry out inspections and remedial actions.
• Support planned and reactive maintenance and housekeeping.
• Promote and adhere to Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality standards.

Multi Skilled Operative (Nightshift) – Asphalt Plant

Mountsorrel, near Loughborough (Leicestershire)

Are you practical, reliable and enjoy working as part of a close ‑ knit team? Looking for a role where no two days are the same, where you can build valuable plant and operational skills, and where your contribution genuinely matters?

We’re recruiting a Multi Skilled Operative (Nightshift) to join our Mountsorrel Asphalt Plant, ideally located for candidates commuting from Loughborough, Leicester, Melton Mowbray and surrounding areas.

This role offers real variety, structured training, and development opportunities within a busy operational environment. Previous asphalt or plant experience is beneficial but not essential - we’re more interested in your attitude, work ethic and willingness to learn.

Working hours – Rotating shift pattern 5pm - 3am, Monday – Friday plus every other Saturday

What You’ll Be Doing

Reporting to the Operations Manager, you’ll play a key role in the safe, efficient day ‑ to ‑ day running of the RAP Yard, contributing to production targets and high‑quality outputs.

• Mixing asphalt to specification
• Production of RAP to specification
• Working collaboratively to deliver quality materials and on ‑ time customer deliveries
• Weighbridge operations
• Operating mobile plant including loading shovel
• Supporting Supervisors with daily and weekly production targets
• Carrying out inspections, identifying defects and implementing remedial actions
• Assisting with planned and reactive plant maintenance
• Ensuring housekeeping standards are consistently high
• Actively promoting and operating to Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality standards

This is a hands‑on, varied role suited to someone who enjoys operational responsibility and being part of a production‑focused team.

What We’re Looking For

We’re keen to hear from candidates with experience in industrial, factory, manufacturing or similar operational environments, and from those who want to develop their technical and supervisory skills over time.

You’ll ideally bring:

• Experience or interest in plant or mobile machinery operations
• Shovel licence (desirable but not essential)
• Excavator Licence (essential)
• A flexible, team ‑ focused approach
• Motivation, good time keeping and strong work ethic
• Clear communication skills and confidence to elevate issues when needed
• IT literacy
• Full UK Driving Licence
